Dr. Brian D. Schmidt
“I love what I do here and I love the people I do it for.”
With a keen interest in performing a magnitude of complex orthopedic, laparoscopy, video endoscopy and soft tissue surgeries, Dr. Brian D. Schmidt is one of our skilled and most sought veterinarians.
After obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Illinois in 1980, Dr. Brian D. Schmidt completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois in 1982, joining the practice the same year. While in school, he was able to work as a research associate to one of the school's small animal surgeons -- allowing him to travel to other hospitals in the state as well as Vancouver, British Columbia assisting and learning numerous and complex surgical procedures.
A member of the Illinois State Veterinary Medicine Association, Dr. Schmidt is also a member of the AVMA and AAHA and is constantly continuing his education to maintain the high level of knowledge about the many problems and conditions that can be dealt with surgically.
Dr. Michael Miller
Dr. Michael Miller is a standout veterinarian who offers cutting-edge veterinary techniques and excellent clinical care to his clients and their special pets.
In 2011, Dr. Miller earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois after obtaining his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Miami in 2007. He completed externships at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center in Jekyll Island, Georgia and the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago. In addition, Dr. Miller compassionately volunteered his time treating injured Illinois wildlife at the Wildlife Medical Clinic. He has professional interest in exotic pets.
Dr. Miller is a proud member of a number of esteemed veterinary organizations including: Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, American Association of Feline Practitioners, and Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians.
In his free time, Dr. Miller is happiest when he’s watching Chicago sports teams and running with his dog, Wombat. Dr. Miller also has one corn snake, Crush, and three aquatic turtles, Mitchell, Norton, and Mader.
Dr. Kimberly A. Joachim

With a special focus in the care and treatment of our feline patients, Dr. Kimberly A. Joachim is a refreshing extension to our veterinarian team.
An alumna of Lockport Township High School, Dr. Joachim received her bachelor's degree in Animal Science from the University of Illinois in 2008 and obtained her DVM from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana in 2012.
Dr. Joachim participated in an externship at the University of Minnesota in Cardiology. She also volunteered at the Wildlife Medical Clinic helping with the treatment of injured wildlife.
Dr. Joachim and husband, Jack, have two cats, Oliver and Mongoose, and a green-wing Macaw, Franky. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and cats, cooking, fitness, dance and yoga.
Dr. Kari Murdoch
A January 2015 graduate of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Kari Murdoch is passionate and energized by veterinary medicine.
While earning her degree, Dr. Murdoch spent three years on the island of St. Kitts in the West Indies where she gained unique clinical experience caring for animals in a diverse cultural setting.
Skilled in the treatment of not only small animals, but exotic pets too, Dr. Murdoch is accredited by the USDA as a Category II Veterinarian. In addition, she is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Chicago Veterinary Medical Association, and licensed by the state of Illinois.
While living in the Caribbean, Dr. Murdoch met her forever friend, a 3 year old calico named Ami. She also has a chocolate lab named Chloe.
In her free time, Dr. Murdoch finds pleasure in reading, hiking, camping, and yoga.
Dr. Justina Koehler
Dr. Koehler is driven by her passion for high-quality animal medicine to deliver only the most exceptional care for her patients and their owners.
In 2016, she graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. While in the process of earning her degree, Dr. Koehler also took the time to volunteer at an elephant sanctuary in Thailand and on a spay-neuter program in Nicaragua.
She is a member of both the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Illinois Veterinary Medical Association, indicative of her skill and experience.
When she isn’t caring for animals at the clinic, she is the loving parent to Pumpkin, a precious cat, and Doogan, a black Labrador mix. Dr. Koehler also enjoys spending her spare time reading, painting, baking, and exploring the great outdoors.
Dr. Larry C. Johnson

Patience, compassion and dedication for the welfare of each our client's furry family members makes Dr. Larry C. Johnson one of our adored and talented veterinarians.
Dr. Larry C. Johnson received his bachelor's degree in microbiology from the University of Missouri and completed his DVM from the University of Missouri in 1976. He began at the practice in 1977.
As a member of the American Animal Hospital Association, Dr. Johnson is also a member of the American Veterinary Medicine Association and the Illinois State Veterinary Medicine Association.
Dr. Johnson and wife, Joanne, were married in 1968. They have two children and four grandchildren, and a furry family member, Chip, a Maltese/Lhasa mix. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, landscape photography and flower gardening.
Dr. Johnson retired in August of 2016.
Dr. R. Todd Gay

With extraordinary care and compassion for each pet and its owner, Dr. R. Todd Gay is one of our beloved hometown veterinarians.
Dr. R. Todd Gay received his Bachelor of Science Degree with honors from Eastern Illinois University in 1979 and obtained his DVM at the University of Illinois in 1983 with honors. He joined our practice the same year.
A member of the American Veterinary Medicine Association and American Animal Hospital Association, Dr. Gay is also a member of the American Heartworm Society and the Cornell Feline Health Center. He and wife, Becky, have two daughters, Heather and Holly. He enjoys traveling, photography and running during his free time.
Dr. Gay retired in September of 2016.
